Authorities are still working to determine the cause of a fire that broke out Thursday afternoon at a property on Chestnut Street in the Village of Bath.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to 2 Chestnut Street following reports of a structure fire involving a shop. Additional 911 calls indicated that the blaze had also spread to the attached residential section of the building.
Bath Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Cilino was the first to arrive on scene and observed active flames coming from the back of the structure. A second alarm was quickly issued to bring in additional manpower and equipment. All residents had safely exited the building prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
Multiple agencies responded, including units from Bath, the Bath VA, Hammondsport, Kanona, and Bath Ambulance. Painted Post Fire Department provided standby coverage at the Bath Fire Station to support both the town and VA during the incident.
Firefighters were able to bring the situation under control, and all responding units cleared the scene by approximately 6:15 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
