June 15, 2025 / Staff Report
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced a temporary closure of a section of State Route 54 in the Town of Barrington starting Monday, June 16, to allow for an emergency culvert replacement.
Beginning at 6:00 a.m., the affected portion of Route 54—located approximately one mile north of the Steuben County line—will be closed to all traffic. The closure is expected to remain in place through Friday, June 20, depending on weather conditions and construction progress.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured via State Routes 230 and 14A. Electronic message boards have been placed in advance of the closure zone to notify travelers and encourage early route adjustments.
Officials are urging drivers to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider alternative routes. As with all construction zones, motorists are reminded to reduce speed and exercise caution. Penalties for speeding in work zones include doubled fines, and multiple violations can lead to driver’s license suspension.
