With “Brianna’s Law” now in effect across New York State, all motorized boat operators are required to obtain a boating safety certificate. To help meet this requirement, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division will host a free one-day course on Saturday, July 12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hammondsport Central School’s LGI Room.
The “New York State Boater’s Safety Course” provides essential instruction on safe boating practices. Upon completing the course and passing a written exam, participants will be eligible to receive the state-issued boater safety certificate, which carries a $10 fee and does not expire.
The course is open to anyone aged 10 and older, but space is limited to 60 participants. Interested individuals must pre-register to secure a spot. The Sheriff’s Office encourages early sign-up for this opportunity to get certified and safely enjoy the water this summer.
Participants must pre-register. Only a certain number of spots are offered, the sheriff’s office noted, with a limit of 60 people.
