Officials in Watkins Glen are urging community members to stay vigilant after a recent cyberattack compromised a municipal email account and triggered a phishing scam targeting local inboxes.
According to the village, the email account belonging to Water Department Supervisor Meghan Fox was breached. Messages appearing to come from her official address — watersuper@watkinsglen.us — have been circulating, bearing the subject line “Proposal_Settlement_*” and containing a malicious PDF link.
Village leaders stress that these emails are fraudulent and should not be opened. Residents who receive one are advised to delete it immediately and avoid clicking any links or downloading attachments.
