LCAA’S FINEST

MOUNT MORRIS – Joe Connolly and the Mount Morris boys are gearing up for yet another post-season run.

Tuesday’s 4-0 non-league victory over Hammondsport saw some of that same magic that led the Blue Devils to the 2022 sectional championship.

Although their record isn’t where coach Connolly would like it to be, Mount Morris is known for some of their best soccer in late October.

Mount Morris improved to 3-8 on the season, which included a big 1-0 victory over rival Keshequa back on Sept. 23.

On Tuesday, Mount Morris took the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a corner kick played in by Jaiden Davis who connected on a header from Aidan Stanley.

The Blue Devils would get a few more chances before the half but couldn’t finish so the game stayed at 1-0.

After the intermission, Mount Morris found the back of the net thrice as Matt Bacon scored on an Owen Yencer assist in the 68th minute to make it a 2-0 game.

The Blue Devils put the game on ice moments later with another goal from Stanley, a sweet left footed rocket into the corner off a feed from Bryson Constantino that pushed the lead to 3-0.

Mount Morris closed out the scoring with a great build-up, give and go from Chase Young to birthday boy Mason Santini for the finish.

Senior keeper Adam Johnson notched his first shutout in net with three saves.

“We missed some very high percentage opportunities,” Connolly said. “But, we attained a much-needed win today and it was a great full team effort.”

Defensively, Connolly noted that his boys played well in the back.

“Senior Chase Young was solid in the back defensively and really added to our attacking opportunities maintaining possession,” coach Connolly said. “Tyler Guzzardi, Jaiden Davis and Jaden Garcia aided in our shutout win defensively as well with their excellent composure and tactful play.”
