Yates County Mourns the Loss of Robert “Bob” Multer

Yates County is bidding a fond farewell to a true local legend. Robert “Bob” Multer, a stalwart figure in county politics and the longest-serving chair of the Yates County Legislature, has passed away at the remarkable age of 90.

Bob Multer, who made Penn Yan his home in 1962, was not only a successful businessman but also an unwavering public servant. He first made his mark as the proprietor of Multer Electric before venturing into the intricate world of local politics.

His illustrious political journey commenced in 1974 when he was elected as the Supervisor for the Town of Barrington. Known for his adept leadership skills and unshakable dedication to public service, Multer ascended to the coveted position of Chair of the Yates County Legislature. He held this esteemed title for a staggering 39 years, etching his name as the longest-serving legislator in the body’s storied history.

In addition to his role as Chair, Multer wore another hat in Middlesex as Supervisor from 1985 until his retirement in 2015. His enduring tenure in various governmental roles underscored his commitment to the community and his uncanny ability to steer the ship effectively.

In line with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral services to commemorate Multer’s passing. His departure signifies the end of an era in Yates County’s local governance, but it leaves behind an indelible legacy of service and devotion to the community he held so close to his heart.
