Lois R. Johnston(nee Ingram,) Canandaigua, formerly of Wellsville

Lois R. Johnston (nee Ingram) passed away on May 30, 2024, in Canandaigua, NY. Lois was born in Wellsville, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Homer and Alwina (Dornow) Ingram; husband Leo, stepson Philip Johnston, grandson Samuel Leo Stolt and son-in-law Michael H. Stolt. Lois is survived by her daughters Jennifer Johnston (Gary), Jody Stolt and grandson Kyle Stolt. Lois is also survived by her beloved grand-dogs Cosmo and Bella.

Lois was valedictorian of her 1954 graduating class in Wellsville, NY. She went onto study nursing at Keuka College and was also the Class of 1956 valedictorian. Lois taught for a year at Keuka, becoming what was then known as a “fifth year” RN. Lois retired in 1990 from a long and rewarding career from the Canandaigua Veterans Administration Hospital. Lois was recognized by then Governor Mario Coumo for excellence in psychiatric nursing.

Lois loved square and round dancing, often traveling with Leo to different communities where she enjoyed meeting other dancers. She also enjoyed bowling, volleyball, boating, sailing and waterskiing. An avid gardener, Lois transformed the family cottage at Keuka Lake from fairly wild to a showplace with various plantings that included banks of myrtle, daylilies, ferns and much more. Leo patiently dug gardens wherever Lois pointed. Lois was a dog lover. She was predeceased by her Ferd, Cindy, Nikki, Kita, Eli and Lazer, none of whom, could ever do no wrong.

At Lois’s request, there were no calling hours or services. She was laid to rest beside Leo in Pine Bank Cemetery, Cheshire, New York with her daughters and grand-dogs in attendance.
