An all new, FREE festival celebrating Pride Month

By Andrew Harris

June is Pride Month all across the country featuring parades, festivals, rallies, and events celebrating the LGTBQ movement, freedom, and love. President Bill Clinton established June as Pride month in 1999 and these celebrations have grown exponentially across the country in the last twenty five years.

Allegany County Pride will be a family friendly festival in Wellsville’s amazing Island Park. The theme of the first-ever event will be “Rainbow Revolution,” and you can expect to see the park full of rainbows!!

Here is the official announcement from the organizers:
“Everyone is invited to join a celebration of love, community & courage at the first ever Allegany County Pride on Saturday, June 22nd from Noon to 4pm at Island Park in Wellsville!

This year’s event, themed “Rainbow Revolution,” will feature face painting, yoga, interactive circus arts, story hour, arts & crafts, neighborhood vendors, and delicious food, along with much more fun for the whole family

The event is hosted by Cattaraugus-Allegany Liberation Collective, a local grassroots organization, in order to bring the community together to celebrate the long history and bright future of the LGBTQ+ communities and their allies.

Free parking provided & no admittance fees. We hope to see you there!”

Allegany County Pride will be a great way spend the day in beautiful Island Park with lots to do. As the theme implies, this will be a colorful event that is open and welcoming to all. There should be some great food too!!

Marlaina’s Slavi Dawgs who serves a wide range of food items including hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, kabobs, wraps, macaroni & cheese and more will be in the park. Other food vendors are still finishing the registration process and a more complete list will be available closer to the event date.
