Story and video by JOHN ANDERSON

The Wellsville Little League is hosting the first round of the all-star tournament for New York State District 2 and we have a fun video to get you ready. Wellsville (1-0, thanks to a 2-0 win over LeRoy) takes on Fillmore (1-0, thanks to a 13-3 win over Bolivar-Richburg) tonight at 6 p.m. at Hank Sinkey Field in Wellsville.

Thanks to Dwier Brown who played John Kinsella in the movie Field of Dreams. The movie was about him, as Kevin Costner’s character Ray Kinsella was told, “If you build it, he will come.” And the he was Dwier Brown (more on Dwier, click HERE).

The Wellsville 8-10 year old all-stars are in Fillmore.

To make this video to encourage people to come to Island Park to see the kids, and to support Little League around the country, we had Finn Clark (Moose jersey), Sullivan Kehrer (Exchange jersey) and Matt Helveston (VFW) wear the old 1950’s cotton and wool jerseys. These were saved from a clean-out of the Little League in the 1990’s and kept in storage. They will be on display at the Little League in Wellsville.

Cash Clark didn’t have a jersey, but assumed the role of executive director!

As you see in the video, C.J. Rahr was thanked for a decade of service as president of Little League. He was honored with a plaque on Saturday from District Administrator Todd Palmatier. C.J.’s parents were big supporters of Little League and the Babe Ruth program for years as well.
