Weis Vineyards in Hammondsport triumphed at the 38th Annual New York Wine Classic, claiming the prestigious Governor’s Cup for their 2018 Riesling Ice Wine, announced by Governor Kathy Hochul. This award honors the best wine among the entries. Additionally, Weis Vineyards secured the title of Best Winery, marking their second win in this category after 2022.
Peter Weis, owner and winemaker at Weis Vineyards, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We are honored to receive the Governor’s Cup and Winery of the Year Awards. It’s a testament to our team’s dedication and the exceptional quality of our 2018 Riesling Ice Wine.”
Weis’ 2018 Ice Wine also clinched the Best Dessert Wine category. Other local winners included Dr. Konstantin Frank’s 2022 Riesling Reserve, named Best White Wine, and Damiani Wine Cellars’ 2017 Brut Méthode Champenoise, which won Best Sparkling.
