Four arrested after Bath burglary investigation

BATH, N.Y. — Don Lewis will be officially sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Village of Bath during a ceremony scheduled for 5:30 p.m. this evening at the Bath Village Hall. Lewis recently left his role as an investigator with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office to accept the position. He continues to serve as a fire investigator for the county and remains the fire chief of the Canisteo Fire Company. Bath Village Mayor Michael Sweet expressed confidence in the department's new leadership, stating he is very pleased with the work Chief Lewis has done so far in his new role.

Bath police have arrested four individuals in connection with a burglary that occurred on August 14th.

Bath, NY – Four individuals have been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred on August 14th at a residence on Liberty Street in Bath.

According to the Bath Police Department, officers responded to the scene and discovered that over $2,000 worth of tools had been stolen. Through a thorough investigation, including processing the crime scene and analyzing surveillance footage, police were able to identify a suspect.

With the assistance of local businesses, some of the stolen property was recovered, and additional suspects were linked to the burglary. Arrest warrants were subsequently issued.

Daniel A. Garcia and Thomas L. Popps have been charged with felony burglary. Shane S. Fox and Elizabeth R. Walker face lesser charges related to the incident. Garcia and Popps were taken into custody and remanded to the Steuben County Jail. Fox and Walker were released pending court appearances.
