Governor Kathy Hochul has formally requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden to bolster recovery efforts for communities devastated by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby last month.
“Following the extensive damage caused by Tropical Storm Debby across New York State, I am urging our federal partners to issue an emergency declaration to aid affected communities,” said Governor Hochul. “It is crucial that we provide relief to those impacted and my administration is committed to ensuring a swift and comprehensive recovery.”
The requested federal assistance would allocate funds to ten counties: Allegany, Broome, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Ontario, Steuben, St. Lawrence, and Yates. These funds would support debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair of public buildings and infrastructure.
