Governor Kathy Hochul has announced an extension of the deadline for income-eligible homeowners to apply for emergency repair grants, providing additional relief to those impacted by severe weather events this summer. The new deadline is now November 8th.
Homeowners across several counties in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions, including those affected by storms in July and the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby in August, can apply for grants of up to $50,000 to make critical repairs to their homes. The funding, administered through New York’s Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), aims to restore damaged homes to safe and livable conditions.
“Extreme weather events have become increasingly frequent in our state, and my administration is committed to supporting New Yorkers in need,” Governor Hochul stated. “These emergency repair grants offer a lifeline to families as they recover from these devastating storms.”
The grants are available to homeowners in counties affected by severe weather in July, including Chautauqua, Madison, Erie, Oneida, Essex, Saratoga, Lewis, and Warren. Those in Allegany, Oswego, Delaware, St. Lawrence, Franklin, Steuben, and Jefferson counties are eligible for assistance following the August 9-10 storm. Additionally, residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties impacted by the August 18-19 storms can apply.
RuthAnne Visnauskas, Commissioner of Homes and Community Renewal, expressed her support for the extension, emphasizing its importance in helping families get the resources they need. “New York is ready to assist eligible homeowners rebuild and repair following the major storms this past summer,” Visnauskas said.
