The picturesque village of Watkins Glen is celebrating the completion of a multi-million dollar revitalization project, funded by a state grant.
The Village of Watkins Glen is nearing completion of its multi-million dollar revitalization effort, funded by a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant awarded by New York State in 2017. The village has successfully completed seven projects, including the transformation of a vacant medical office into market-rate apartments and the conversion of a former VFW building into a fitness center with additional housing.
The final DRI project, the construction of an ADA-compliant Clute Park Playground, is currently underway. This new playground will feature a variety of accessible play equipment and stormwater infiltration features.
“Watkins Glen has exceeded all expectations with each of our DRI projects,” said Mayor Laurie DeNardo. “The new ADA playground will be our final DRI project, and while it’s bittersweet, the accomplishments will provide years of enjoyment for the future.”
