On Friday, August 9, the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby dumped several inches of rain and severely impacted many areas in Southern Steuben and Allegany Counties, including Canisteo, Woodhull, and Hornell. Major flash flooding rushed over roads and devastated much of the area, including Canisteo Rotary Park.
On Thursday, November 14, a check for flood relief was presented by John Gould, Bath Rotary Club President, to Tom Crook, Canisteo-Greenwood Central School Superintendent and Canisteo Rotary Club President.
“I am proud to call the Village of Bath my home now, but I am equally proud to be from the resilient Canisteo Valley. Time and time again this valley has shown its strength and its heart. We do not shrink in the face of adversity. We rise above it,” remarked Eddie VanStine, Bath Rotary Club President-Elect and a former resident of Canisteo. “This small token of support from the Bath Rotary Club is far more than a monetary gesture – it is a symbol. A symbol of unity, compassion, and the unwavering belief that we stand strongest when we stand together. Supporting our neighbors is not just an act of kindness; it is our way of life. Together we will rebuild, heal, and show the world the true meaning of community. I personally am pleased that I have been able to help Canisteo residents with cleanup and have been directing them to the resources they need for certain situations.
