Lake Life Brewery, a new locally-owned brewery and tap house, has officially opened its doors at 111 Liberty St. Penn Yan. The brewery celebrated its grand opening on October 22nd with the Yates County Chamber of Commerce and a crowd of eager patrons.
Owners Michael and Karen Marshall are excited to share their passion for brewing with the community. They offer a selection of bold European-style ales, alongside handcrafted brick-oven pizzas.
The Marshalls are no strangers to Penn Yan. Michael served in the Army’s 770th Engineer Company, stationed on Cornwell Street, for nearly 15 years. “We’ve seen this community grow over the years,” says Michael, “and we wanted to create a space that gives back to the people who make Penn Yan home.”
Karen, a Keuka College graduate, shares their brewing journey. “It all started with a friendly challenge to brew the best Pumpkin Ale,” explains Michael. “It was such a hit that we kept brewing as a hobby. Over time, that hobby blossomed into a passion for experimentation and a desire to share our creations.”
Michael joined the local brewing association, honing his skills and receiving positive feedback on his beers. Encouraged by their friends and community, the Marshalls decided to take the leap and turn their hobby into a career. They developed a business plan and sought support from economic development groups to transform their passion into a thriving brewery.
Lake Life Brewery is open seven days a week, offering a variety of European-style beers like German Weiss, Czech Pilsner, and other popular styles. They also host weekly events, including Trivia Mondays and live music on select nights.
