The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department is taking a significant step toward fostering better communication and understanding with individuals on the autism spectrum by launching the Blue Envelope program.
Sheriff Jim Allard shared details of the initiative, which is designed to assist drivers with autism during traffic stops. Participants in the program are provided with a blue envelope to keep in their vehicles. In the event they are pulled over, they can hand the envelope to the officer. The envelope contains key information about the driver’s condition, helping law enforcement respond with greater awareness and understanding.
