The Village of Bath has been awarded a $4.5 million grant through the NY Forward Program, aiming to revitalize its Liberty Street Historic District and enhance the downtown area.

Situated along the Cohocton River, Bath serves as a gateway to Keuka Lake, an area celebrated for its picturesque scenery and renowned wineries. In recent years, the village has recognized the need to strengthen its core and restore its role as a vibrant downtown neighborhood. The planned revitalization of the Liberty Street Historic District is a pivotal step in this endeavor.

The revitalization plan focuses on creating an active downtown with enhanced public spaces, strategically placed amenities, and new housing opportunities. These improvements aim to attract visitors and foster an environment that retains and attracts residents and businesses alike.

Mayor Michael Sweet expressed gratitude for the grant, acknowledging the support from Governor Kathy Hochul and members of the Regional Economic Development Council. He also extended special thanks to local leaders for their unwavering commitment to the community’s growth, emphasizing that their leadership is making a lasting impact.

Assemblymember Philip A. Palmesano highlighted the village’s diligent efforts in moving forward with strategic goals outlined in various studies and plans. He noted that the NY Forward funding will enable Bath to implement its vision, promoting economic growth and strengthening its position as a hub for increased tourism and local investment.

State Senator Thomas O’Mara remarked that the grant will allow local leaders to advance development projects that will benefit the entire region. He acknowledged that state investments through programs like NY Forward have had a positive impact on communities across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, bolstering local economies and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The NY Forward Program is designed to support communities in New York State by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods, thereby boosting local economies. Bath’s award is part of the state’s broader commitment to investing in the future of Southern Tier communities, fostering thriving destinations where businesses, families, and visitors can flourish.

The planned revitalization is expected to breathe new life into Bath’s historic downtown, preserving its rich heritage while paving the way for a prosperous future.
