New Hornell State Police barracks open, consolidating operations to improve response times and public safety.

Staff Report / April 6th 2025

In a strategic move to enhance law enforcement efficiency and community service, the New York State Police have inaugurated a new barracks at 6251 County Route 64 in Hornell. This facility consolidates operations previously conducted at the Wayland and North Hornell stations, both of which have now been closed.

The newly established SP Hornell barracks is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to meet the evolving demands of modern policing. Its strategic location aims to improve accessibility and reduce response times, thereby strengthening the State Police’s ability to address emergencies and engage in proactive community policing.

Major Kevin P. Sucher, who was appointed Commander of Troop E in January 2025, emphasized the importance of this development. “By relocating to SP Hornell, we are ensuring that our troopers have the resources they need to serve the community effectively and uphold our commitment to public safety,” he stated.

The consolidation marks the end of an era for the Wayland and North Hornell facilities, which have served Steuben County for many years. However, this move represents a significant step forward in enhancing law enforcement capabilities and improving service to residents and visitors alike.

The New York State Police express their gratitude to the residents of Steuben County and surrounding communities for their continued support during this transition. Troopers remain dedicated to providing the highest level of service and protection from their new headquarters in Hornell.

For non-emergency inquiries, the SP Hornell barracks can be contacted at (607) 324-3038. In case of emergencies, residents are reminded to call 911.
