Finger Lakes Land Trust Seeks New Director of Development Amid Expanding Conservation Efforts

The Finger Lakes Land Trust seeks a new Director of Development to lead fundraising as it expands conservation efforts across the region.

Staff Report / April 27 2025

The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT), a prominent conservation nonprofit based in Ithaca, New York, is actively seeking a new Director of Development to lead its fundraising and donor engagement initiatives. The announcement, made on April 18, 2025, comes as the organization experiences a surge in conservation activities across the Finger Lakes region.

The Director of Development will report directly to FLLT President Andy Zepp and collaborate closely with the organization’s leadership team, including the Directors of Conservation, Stewardship, and Operations. The role entails overseeing a team of three full-time staff members and managing comprehensive fundraising programs to support an annual operating budget exceeding $2 million.

Key responsibilities include spearheading major gift and planned giving efforts, coordinating grant proposals, managing donor databases, and organizing special events to engage supporters. The ideal candidate will possess at least five years of experience in fundraising or a related field, a bachelor’s degree, and a proven track record in nonprofit development. Proficiency in donor databases and fundraising communications is also required. The position offers a salary range of $90,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience.

This leadership opportunity arises as FLLT expands its conservation footprint. Recent projects include the acquisition of 24 acres along the Chemung River, securing 1,680 feet of riverfront to be transferred to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for public use . Additionally, the organization has launched a $500,000 matching challenge to support the creation of the Shotwell Brook Conservation Area, a 101-acre nature preserve near Skaneateles Lake.

FLLT’s mission encompasses the protection of over 34,000 acres of natural and agricultural land, safeguarding critical habitats, conserving water resources, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The new Director of Development will play a pivotal role in advancing these objectives by securing essential funding and fostering community engagement.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to kaitmarrin@fllt.org, with “Director of Development” in the subject line .
