Yates Community Center Launches “Raise the Roof” Campaign to Build New Community Hub

The Yates Community Center has launched a major fundraising effort to build a new, 35,000-square-foot facility in Penn Yan.

Staff Report / June 9, 2025

The Yates Community Center (YCC) is making a major push to transform community life in Yates County with the launch of its ambitious “Raise the Roof” campaign. The effort aims to raise the remaining funds needed to construct a 35,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art community facility next to the current YCC Fitness Center at 467 North Main Street in Penn Yan.

Designed to serve residents of all ages, the new multi-purpose building will include a walking and running track, a large community gathering space, and several flexible-use rooms to accommodate wellness classes, youth programs, and public events. YCC leaders say the project will provide year-round recreational opportunities in a county where indoor space is often limited, especially in winter months.

“This project responds to real community needs—from parents looking for a safe, reliable place for their children to play, to seniors seeking health-focused programs in an accessible setting,” said YCC Executive Director Charles Bollinger III. “This isn’t just about building a structure. It’s about building community.”

To date, the campaign has raised more than $4.6 million through pledges and grants. However, organizers say additional community support is needed to close the remaining funding gap. The total cost of the project is estimated at $7 million.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with a targeted opening by December 2026. Once completed, the new facility will be the largest indoor recreation and event space in the county and is expected to attract thousands of annual visitors.

To support the campaign and bring energy to the final fundraising phase, YCC is hosting a lively Casino Night benefit on Friday, August 16, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Seasons on Keuka Lake. The evening will feature casino-style games, wine and spirit tastings from local producers, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, raffles, and a silent auction. Tickets are $125 per person and include gaming chips, food, and entertainment. All proceeds will go directly to the construction project.

Campaign Co-Chair Jill Bird called the event “a chance to have fun while investing in our future. This new center will become a cornerstone of life in Yates County.”
