Volunteers are needed!!
From the KLA,
The Keuka Lake Association will be working with Yates County Soil & Water to conduct a water chestnut hand-pull on the morning of Thursday, June 26th, 2025 from 9am-12pm. We are looking for about ten volunteers to help us with:
- Setting up and manning a tent with water/refreshments provided by the KLA and Yates County Soil & Water. We would meet and set-up the tent around 8:30am near the boat launch in Penn Yan. The work starts at 9:00am and should be done around noon.
- Harvesting Water Chestnuts in kayaks/canoes will begin at 9:00am, but we ask that volunteers arrive by 8:45 for training and organization. SWCD will have a few extra kayaks if needed. However, each volunteer should bring their own PFD. Harvesting will begin at 9:00am and wrap up around 12pm. Pizza will be provided in the late morning.
- We will transport the plants back to the boat launch and then Soil and Water will transport the plants off site to be composted.
