Mary D. Bastian, 77, formerly of Wellsville

MESA, AZ — Mary D. Bastian, 77, formerly of Wellsville, NY passed away on June 10, 2025 in Mesa, AZ following an illness.

Born January 4, 1948 in Olean, NY, she was the daughter of Louis and Florence Colley. With the exception of 2 1⁄2 years, she spent most of her life in Allegany County.

After graduating high school, Mary worked at General Dynamics in Rochester, NY. She later returned to Allegany County and worked at Acme Electric in Cuba, NY. After raising her children, she later was employed for several years at Bell’s Supermarket in Wellsville, NY. In 1986, she began working at PM Research, Inc. in Wellsville, NY where she served as the Office Manager.

Mary loved her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with her family. Throughout her life, Mary was a cub scout leader, assisted with fundraisers, and enjoyed watching her sons play sports. When Mary wasn’t busy with her children and grandchildren, she was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, cryptograms, crocheting, sudoku, playing cards and board games, as well as completing jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her three sons Stephen (Kelly) Hint of Piffard, NY, Dennis (Amy) Hint of Norfolk, VA, Christopher (Erica) Hint of Manteca, CA; grandchildren Tyler (Kat), Kaci (Nathan), Jonathan, Ethan, Garrett, and Hannah; three stepsons Doug (Elizabeth) Bastian, Tim (Kathryn) Bastian, and Andy (Christina) Bastian; step grandchildren Scottie (Krista), Kyle (Madison), Ian (Gabriella); and step great grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Gary L. Bastian in April 2024, her mother, father, two sisters, two brothers, and a stepson.

A private graveside service will be held on July 18, 2025 followed by a celebration of life for friend and family at 1:00 pm at the Cuba Fire Hall Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
