The Penn Yan Area Summer Band is preparing to kick off its 34th season of community music-making, inviting musicians of all ages and abilities to join in a beloved summer tradition.
Rehearsals will begin on Monday, July 8, and continue weekly through August 5, taking place from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. in the Penn Yan Academy Band Room. Participants do not need to be residents of Penn Yan or affiliated with the school district, anyone with a love for concert band music is welcome to bring their instrument and join the ensemble.
The group will culminate its season with two free public performances as part of the annual “Concerts in the Park” series. The first will take place on Tuesday, August 6, on the lawn of the old Yates County Courthouse in Penn Yan, and the second on Wednesday, August 7, in downtown Dundee. Both concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. and wrap up around 8 p.m.
The Penn Yan Area Summer Band, originally established in 1991, offers an opportunity for local musicians to come together for fun, fellowship, and shared musical expression during the summer months. Whether you’re a former band student, a hobbyist, or a professional musician, the group provides a relaxed and welcoming setting to keep your skills sharp and contribute to the community’s cultural life.
For those interested in participating or attending the concerts, no registration is required, just show up with your instrument and a willingness to play.
