DEC event offers hands-on learning and loaner rods for new anglers in Steuben County
Staff Report / July 8, 2025
Families and outdoor enthusiasts are invited to a free fishing workshop hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) on Thursday, July 10. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Birdseye Hollow Pond in the Town of Bradford and is open to individuals of all ages and experience levels.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn fishing basics with guidance from DEC staff, including fisheries experts, environmental educators, forest rangers, and conservation officers. Whether it’s your first time casting a line or you’re just looking for a refresher, the hands-on instruction is designed to be welcoming and accessible.
No fishing license is required for the event, and equipment will be available for those who don’t have their own gear. Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to Public Participation Specialist Michelle Margeson by email at michelle.margeson@dec.ny.gov or by calling 585-226-5440.
