A 33-year-old Bath resident is facing felony drug and burglary-related charges following his arrest earlier this month, stemming from an incident that occurred in late June.
Zachariah E. Cole was taken into custody on July 3 after Bath Police officers spotted him walking along State Route 415 and recognized him as having outstanding charges. According to police, the charges are connected to a June 27 report involving unauthorized entry into a condemned apartment in the village. Investigators determined Cole was the individual who entered the building, despite not being permitted on the premises.
Following his arrest, officers reportedly discovered Buprenorphine Hydrochloride pills and sublingual films in Cole’s possession. Authorities said he did not have a prescription for the medication and allegedly intended to distribute it. Cole was charged with criminal trespass in the third degree, a class B misdemeanor, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony. He was processed at the Bath Police Department and released from the Steuben County Jail, as the charges do not qualify for bail under current state law. Cole is scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.
