Congressman Nick Langworthy Announces Federal ARC Grant for Bath and Hammondsport Rail Corridor Stabilization Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency in Bath, NY has been awarded $200,000 by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for the Bath and Hammondsport Rail Corridor Stabilization Project. This entails costs associated with repairing a 2.9-mile stretch of the railway.
In addition to the $200,000 ARC grant, local sources will provide another $200,00, bringing the total project funding to $400,000.
While this portion of the railway is still considered active, it has not been regularly used since the 1990’s. Specifically, these grant funds will allow the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency to stabilize the railbed, control erosion, and improve access. After the repairs are completed, the grantee will lease the corridor to a local recreation operator who will use it as a tourist attraction.
