Area residents have an opportunity to earn a New York State Boater Safety Education Certificate with an upcoming course scheduled for this month in Watkins Glen.
The Finger Lakes Chapter of America’s Boating Club is offering the state-approved eight-hour program at the Watkins Glen Yacht Club. Classes will be held on August 11 and August 18 from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by a review session and final exam on August 25. Participants will learn essential safe boating practices, including proper docking, navigation rules, emergency response, and required onboard equipment.
The course is open to anyone operating motorized vessels, including personal watercraft and sailboats equipped with motors, as required under Brianna’s Law. The cost is $35, with discounted pricing available for additional family members who share course materials. Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
