Emergency managers are problem-solvers, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. When incidents require collaboration across multiple services, agencies, and disciplines—even beyond traditional public safety—emergency managers step in to lead. They help communities and organizations understand risk, build resilience, navigate crises, and take the right actions when disaster strikes.

What makes these professionals unique is that they are not only highly trained crisis managers—they are also everyday neighbors. Across the country and right here in Steuben County, our emergency services personnel serve our community. They are the chief risk advisors for the County and organizations they live in and serve, helping them prevent, mitigate, prepare for, and recover from disasters.

Steuben County is proud of the tremendous work and dedication of its Emergency Services Office. The County’s leadership in preparedness and resilience continues to be a model for the region and the state.

In preparation of National Preparedness Month in September, we urge residents stay prepared and informed. Steuben County encourages everyone to download the Ready Steuben app, available at no cost in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app provides:

  • 24/7 emergency notifications and weather alerts tailored to our region.
  • Guidance on how to build emergency kits and family readiness plans.
  • Resources to stay informed during severe weather, flooding, power outages, and other emergencies.

“Preparedness starts with awareness,” said Steuben County officials. “National Emergency Management Awareness Month is the perfect time to take steps to ensure you and your loved ones are ready for any crisis.”
