Update: Naples Teacher Resigns After Controversial Social Media Posts Spark Protests

NAPLES, N.Y. — A staff member at Naples Central School District has been placed on administrative leave after a series of social media posts about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk drew sharp criticism from the community. Kirk, a well-known political commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was killed Wednesday during an event at a Utah university. Shortly after, screenshots began circulating of posts allegedly made by a district employee. The posts included profanity directed at Trump supporters and Kirk’s followers, called Kirk a Nazi, and shared an image of a shirt with the words “Is He Dead Yet?” The employee is identified as a teacher on the district’s website. Following complaints from parents and community members, school leaders confirmed the staff member was placed on leave while the matter is reviewed. In a statement Thursday, the district underscored its commitment to respectful dialogue and community values, writing: “It is comforting to know the NCS community values kindness, empathy, compassion, and civility. As a district, we stand with you in doing all we can to uphold these values, which are essential to model for our students.” Officials said no further comment will be provided until the internal investigation is complete.

Staff Report / September 25, 2025

NAPLES, N.Y. – A Naples Central School District staff member who was recently placed on administrative leave following controversial social media posts about the death of activist Charlie Kirk has officially resigned.

The decision comes just one week after community tensions escalated, with protesters gathering outside Naples Town Hall near the high school. Demonstrators played recordings of Kirk’s speeches while urging the district to take permanent action against the employee.

In a letter to families, Superintendent Kevin Swartz confirmed the resignation and emphasized that the matter has now been closed. He also expressed gratitude to students and staff, noting their resilience and commitment to beginning the school year on a positive note. Swartz highlighted the district’s smooth transition into new policies restricting the use of internet-enabled devices during the school day.
