HECTOR, N.Y. – A Schuyler County crash on Monday morning claimed the life of one teenager and left another seriously injured.
According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to County Road 1 in the Town of Hector shortly before noon. Investigators say a 2010 Ford Fusion failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck multiple trees.
The passenger, 17-year-old Marcus Knight of Trumansburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Schuyler County Coroner’s Office. The driver, 18-year-old Michael Blake of Ithaca, was flown by medical helicopter to Upstate Medical University Hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency crews from the Trumansburg and Enfield fire departments responded, along with Trumansburg Ambulance, New York State Police accident reconstruction specialists, and the Coroner’s Office.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.
