Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Hosting Drug Take Back Day October 25

Staff Report / October 15, 2025

BATH, N.Y. – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee to participate in the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can bring old, unused, or expired prescription medications to the Steuben County Public Safety Building, located at 7007 Rumsey Street Extension in Bath. The event offers a free and anonymous way for residents to safely dispose of medications, helping to prevent misuse and protect the environment.

Accepted items include prescription tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of medication. However, organizers note that needles, syringes, and lancets will not be accepted at this event. Those looking to dispose of sharps should contact a local hospital, healthcare facility, or a mail-back disposal program for proper handling.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is part of a nationwide effort led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to reduce the risk of prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning by promoting responsible disposal of medications.
