MIDDLESEX, N.Y. – Authorities have identified the man who died last week after his kayak overturned on Canandaigua Lake.
According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 26-year-old Ben Hamann of Farmington. Hamann’s body was recovered Thursday afternoon following a search that lasted more than six hours.
The incident occurred around 10:19 a.m. Thursday near the Vine Valley boat launch, when the Yates County 911 Center received reports of a kayaker in distress. Despite an immediate multi-agency response, the search concluded tragically when Hamann’s body was located later that day.
The recovery effort involved multiple agencies from both Yates and Ontario counties, including the Middlesex Hose Company, marine units, drone operators, and dive teams.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. No additional details have been released.
