Bath Man Arrested After Alleged Theft from SPCA Donation Box

Staff Report / November 3, 2025

BATH, N.Y. – A Bath resident is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after police say he stole money from a donation box intended to benefit the Finger Lakes SPCA. According to the Bath Village Police Department, officers responded to a reported larceny at the Tractor Supply Co. on West Morris Street on the afternoon of October 9, where they found that the store’s donation box had been forcibly opened and emptied of cash.

Following an investigation, police identified 61-year-old Warren Hoffman of Bath as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. After several weeks of searching, Hoffman was located on October 30 on Wilkes Avenue by Bath Police and a New York State Trooper. Authorities said that during his arrest, Hoffman was found in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine.

Hoffman was charged with petit larceny, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree—all class A misdemeanors. He was processed and taken to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment before being released. Police noted that this marks the second time Hoffman has been accused of stealing an SPCA donation box from a local business.
