Ovid Highway Chief Steps Down Following No-Confidence Vote

Staff Report / November 28, 2025

Ovid’s highway superintendent has stepped down just days after the Town Board publicly declared it no longer had confidence in his leadership.

In a statement released Wednesday, Acting Town Clerk Joan Hendrix confirmed that Highway Superintendent Jeremy Huff resigned effective November 21. His departure came nine days after the board passed a no-confidence resolution outlining concerns about his performance.

According to the town, state election officials have been notified of the vacancy. The seat will remain unfilled until the 2026 general election, as required by New York election law. In the meantime, the deputy highway superintendent will oversee daily operations and ensure road maintenance continues without interruption.

The Town Board emphasized in its statement that local road safety and responsible use of taxpayer funds remain top priorities.

The board’s Resolution No. 9 of 2025, approved on November 12, cited issues such as late payroll and voucher submissions, incorrect budget coding, and unreturned official correspondence as reasons for the vote of no confidence.

Town Supervisor Joe Borst declined to provide additional comment, and officials say no further statements will be issued at this time.
