Watkins Glen State Park Named Most-Visited State Park in U.S. for 2025

Staff Report / December 11, 2025

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Watkins Glen State Park in New York’s Finger Lakes region has been ranked the most-visited state park in the United States for 2025, according to recent data analyzed by Google Maps and reported by Travel + Leisure.

The ranking, which is based on direction requests in Google Maps since Memorial Day 2025, placed the scenic Finger Lakes destination at the top of the list out of thousands of parks nationwide.

Watkins Glen State Park is renowned for its striking natural beauty, featuring 19 waterfalls within a two-mile gorge trail, dramatic cliffs, and lush woodlands that draw hikers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. The park also offers amenities including camping, picnicking, fishing, and an Olympic-size pool, making it a popular choice for both day trips and extended visits.

Several other parks made the top 10 list of most visited, including Liberty State Park in New Jersey, Silver Falls State Park in Oregon, and Starved Rock State Park in Illinois, while New York had additional representation with Letchworth State Park and Jones Beach State Park also appearing on the list.

The recognition highlights a growing interest in state parks as travel destinations, offering accessible outdoor experiences that rival national parks in natural beauty and visitor appeal.
