Bath Wins More Than $2 Million in Grants for Water Infrastructure and Arboretum Improvement

Staff Report / December 26. 2025

BATH, NY – The Village of Bath has secured more than $2 million in grant funding to support two major community projects, village officials announced this week.

The largest award, approximately $2 million, will go to Bath Electric, Gas & Water Systems (BEGWS) to help fund upgrades to the village’s drinking water infrastructure. According to state funding announcements, New York has recently allocated hundreds of millions in water infrastructure grants to communities across the state, prioritizing upgrades to aging systems in small and rural areas like Bath. These initiatives are part of broader efforts under statewide programs like the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act, aimed at protecting public health and enhancing water quality for residents.

In addition to the BEGWS award, the Mossy Bank Committee has received $152,000 for the development of the Mossy Bank Arboretum project, a community-driven initiative to expand green space, educational programming, and botanical diversity in the Mossy Bank Park area.

Mayor Sweet celebrated the funding success, saying, “The Village of Bath received notice that we have been awarded over $2 million dollars in grants. First, the Mossy Bank Committee was awarded $152 thousand dollars for the Mossy Bank Arboretum project. Second, Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems — BEGWS — was awarded $2 million dollars for their water upgrade project. This year alone, the Village of Bath has been awarded over $10 million dollars for various projects! Thank you all who have worked countless hours to apply for these grants, your efforts have not gone unnoticed.”

The water system funding will support critical improvements, such as lead service line replacements and other infrastructure enhancements that aim to reduce public health risks and improve service reliability. Bath was one of several communities across New York to receive significant funding under recent state and federal infrastructure initiatives.

Community leaders voiced optimism that these investments will not only improve day-to-day services but also strengthen Bath’s appeal as a place to live and work. With additional grants already secured this year, municipal officials say the village is making steady progress toward long-term upgrades in utilities, recreation, and economic development.
