Stephen S. “Steve” Hall, 68, Canisteo

Stephen S. “Steve” Hall, 68, passed away Friday morning Jan. 23, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love and care of his family after a long and difficult illness.

Born September 20, 1957 in Corning to the late William J. and Jeannine C. (Crandall) Hall, Steve was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1975, had attended SUNY Oswego, then transferred to SUNY Alfred and earned an Associates’ degree in engineering. He was employed and retired from the NYSDOT in Hornell as an engineer in charge, serving 36 years of employment.

Steve never left the Canisteo/Almond area, finding comfort, peace and serenity in the area and the people around him. He enjoyed time at the family cottage on Keuka Lake with family and friends where everyone was welcome and had a great time. He had great times riding his side by side at various runs throughout the area and looked forward to going to the many races at Woodhull and Super Dirt Weekend in Syracuse with family and friends.

Steve also loved to cook, make soups and try to perfect his mother’s potato salad.  He had a great sense of humor, pleasant laugh and smile, was great company to be around, and could always be depended on to lend a helping hand. Steve was a great bother, uncle and good friend.

He is survived by two brothers, Chris (Marina) Hall of Attleboro, Mass. Mark (Edna) Hall of Hornell a sister Lisa (Jeff) Ryan of Canisteo. His nephews Brett (Becca) Ryan, Bryce (Morghan) Ryan, Tyler Hall and Slade (Alyssa) Ryan, a niece Raegan Ryan, three great nieces Peyton, Tatum and Addie and his special canine friend and companion “Abby”

There will be no services at this time. A celebration of Steve’s life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to either Faith in Action, PO Box 117 Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Canisteo Fire Company, ear marked Junior Firemen, 14 Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823.
