Governor Kathy Hochul / February 5, 2026
Over the past four years, we’ve made real progress making New York safer and more affordable by investing in the people and communities that make our state strong.
In my State of the State, I laid out our plans for the year ahead and beyond, with an agenda focused on what matters most: Lowering costs, keeping our communities safe, and expanding opportunity for all New Yorkers.
Because your family and your future are my fight.
The Latest From the Empire State
Making life more affordable. As New York’s first mom Governor, I know how costs can add up for working families. Building on our work that’s already putting thousands of dollars back in New Yorkers pockets, I was proud to announce our plans to bring universal child care to New York State — and save parents thousands of dollars a year. And as New Yorkers facing some of the highest car insurance rates in the nation, we’re going after fraud and bad actors that drive up costs for everyone.
Breaking ground on Micron. We broke ground on Micron’s new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay – a facility that will soon be the largest chipmaking facility in the entire country. Micron’s $100 billion investment is the largest private investment in the entire history of our state, will create up to 50,000 jobs, and its impact will be felt for decades, transforming lives and strengthening our communities for generations.
Standing up to federal overreach. In New York, we will defend due process, protect our communities, and push back when federal power goes too far. I announced new actions to stop ICE from deputizing our local police to do their jobs for them, protect sensitive locations like homes, schools, and hospitals, and give New Yorkers the right to take action when federal officers violate the law. Because when power is abused, New York will act.
