Bath, NY – A local man is facing serious charges after authorities say a traffic dispute with an Amazon delivery driver escalated into a damaging confrontation on a residential street.
According to the Village of Bath Police Department, officers identified 43-year-old Eric J. Jackson as the suspect in an incident that occurred on the evening of January 28 on Haverling Street. Police say Jackson reportedly stopped his vehicle in the roadway and got out, allegedly approaching an Amazon delivery van and striking its hood.
The delivery driver contacted police after the vehicle was damaged, and an initial survey of the scene found no suspect. Investigators later reviewed dash camera footage provided by the delivery company, which reportedly showed the events leading up to the alleged vandalism and helped identify Jackson as the person involved.
Officers contacted Jackson, and on Thursday he turned himself in to authorities, where he was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, a Class D felony, according to officials. Authorities estimate the damage to the van at more than $1,500.
Following processing, Jackson was transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment. Police reminded the public that charges are accusations and that suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
