Village Elections Underway Across Steuben County Today

Steuben County will kick off early voting on October 26 at three designated locations across the county.

Staff Report / March 18, 2026

Residents in several Steuben County communities are heading to the polls today as villages hold their annual Election Day on Wednesday, March 18. Voting hours in most locations run from noon until 9 p.m., with a mix of contested races and uncontested seats across the region.

In the Village of Bath, Mayor Mike Sweet is seeking reelection on the Republican line. Incumbent trustees Melonie Coots and Jim Spencer are also running on the Republican ticket.

Over in Hammondsport, Democrats Jason McCloud and Deborah Lynch are vying for village trustee seats. Voting in Hammondsport is taking place at the Fred and Harriet Taylor Library.

In Savona, incumbent trustee Jessica Stevens is seeking reelection on the Democratic line. She is joined on the ballot by Duane Basch, who is running for the seat currently held by Chris McCann. Officials say McCann is not seeking reelection. Voting is being held at Savona Village Hall.

The Village of Cohocton has two trustee seats available, with candidates Kathryn Gray and Matthew McCarthy both on the ballot. Residents can vote at the Village Hall.

In Wayland, voters are deciding a trustee race between David Pragle and David Stevens. Meanwhile, Melonie Coley is running unopposed. Voting is also being conducted at the Wayland Village Hall.

At the Addison Community Center, voters are choosing between candidates Lorne Hults and Richard Cilino.

In Painted Post, Mayor Ralph Foster is running for reelection. Voting is taking place at the Village Hall.

Meanwhile, there are no races on the ballot today in Avoca. However, village officials have announced a special election scheduled for May 1 to fill a trustee seat.

Voters are encouraged to check their local polling locations and participate in shaping their village leadership.
