From the Yates County Sheriff’s Office,
Did you know that anyone underway in a boat less than 21 feet in length anytime between November 1st and May 1st must wear a securely fastened life jacket? This includes those in canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and motorboats; commercial vessels exempt.
This mandatory “cold weather” rule aims to prevent cold-water shock and hypothermia, as water temperatures are dangerous during late fall and winter months.
