Dundee NY – A longtime community pharmacy in Yates County is preparing to close its doors, marking the end of an era for local residents who have relied on its services for decades.
Water Street Pharmacy will officially cease operations on May 1 after more than 20 years serving the village. The closure will shift pharmacy services to Village Drug, located a short drive away in Penn Yan.
The transition means that customers who currently fill prescriptions in Dundee will need to begin using the Penn Yan location going forward. While the change ensures continued access to medications and pharmacy care, it also represents a significant adjustment for residents accustomed to having a local provider within walking or short driving distance.
For many in the community, the pharmacy has been more than just a place to pick up prescriptions—it has served as a familiar and trusted healthcare resource. Its closure reflects broader challenges facing small, independent pharmacies, particularly in rural communities where maintaining operations can become increasingly difficult.
Officials have not detailed specific reasons for the shutdown, but the consolidation of services is expected to streamline operations under one location in Penn Yan.
