Governor Kathy Hochul / June 5, 2026
When I say your family is my fight, I mean it.
Right now Republicans in Washington are pushing an agenda that is making life more expensive for hardworking New Yorkers. Trump’s unnecessary war is driving up gas prices. His illegal tariffs are making everything more expensive. And he even went so far as to say, “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.”
They promised to fight for our families. They have failed.
Here in New York, we took the opposite approach. We stayed focused and pushed for policies that will lower costs and keep people safe — and that’s exactly what our budget delivered.
This year’s budget:
- Delivers a comprehensive path to Universal Child Care to help working parents who are being crushed by high costs.
- Drives down sky-high auto insurance costs for millions of families and small businesses across the state.
- Takes on utility costs with $1 billion in energy rebate checks and a Ratepayer Protection Plan to help us fight against out-of-control price hikes.
- Creates safer streets and communities by doubling down on our investments in subway safety, cracking down on 3D printed guns and DIY machine guns, protecting houses of worship, and slowing down super speeders who make our streets less safe.
- Makes it easier and more affordable to build the housing and infrastructure communities need with our Let Them Build agenda, which cuts the red tape that’s slowed down progress while preserving environmental safeguards.
- Fights for our kids with nation leading legislation to protect our kids from online predators, scammers, and AI chatbots.
- Protects New Yorkers from ICE overreach by keeping local cops focused on local crimes, protecting sensitive locations, banning masks that conceal ICE agents’ identities, and making sure that when boundaries are crossed, New Yorkers can hold federal immigration officers accountable.
This is what government is supposed to do: Fight for working people, and deliver real results.
So with the stroke of a pen, we’ve turned those commitments into law.
There’s more work to do, but today we can say with confidence: We showed up for New York. We fought for the people who sent us here. And we will continue fighting for you and your family.
Ever Upward,
Gov. Kathy Hochul
