As night falls on Thursday, an extra dose of celebration will light up the Ithaca Commons. The Downtown Ithaca Alliance is not only bringing the Beginnings Credit Union Summer Concert Series to a rousing close—it is also commemorating the 50th anniversary of everyone’s favorite pedestrian centerpiece.
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Bernie Milton Pavilion will come alive with the rhythmic beats of Yamatai, Cornell University’s acclaimed taiko drumming ensemble, followed by the energizing sound of Ithaca’s very own Fall Creek Brass Band, known for its vibrant funk-infused brass arrangements.
Adding to the community spirit, free scoops of Purity Ice Cream will be available while supplies last, and the evening will feature remarks from Ithaca’s mayor highlighting the Commons’ legacy and the vital role of local businesses in shaping its character.
The event is free and open to all, offering both long-time residents and newcomers a chance to reflect on five decades of public life at the Commons and to enjoy a spirited close to the summer season.
