Corning, NY – A new event aimed at advancing workforce development in the Southern Tier will take place Friday, October 24, 2025, at SUNY Corning Community College’s Triangle Lounge. The program, titled “Innovations in Workforce Training,” is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and is free to attend with advance registration.
Hosted by Three Rivers Development, the event will open with a welcome and keynote remarks by Dr. Millicent Ruffin. The featured speaker will be Asantewa Holley, Chief Operating Officer of the Northland Training Center in Buffalo, who will discuss innovative approaches to workforce training and development. Holley’s presentation will explore community partnerships, wraparound services, and training models designed to meet the needs of high-demand industries.
Following the keynote, Dr. Ruffin will moderate a panel discussion featuring Holley along with Dr. Tony Wohlers, Josh Michal, and Stacey Duncan. The discussion will focus on new models and best practices in workforce education, offering attendees an opportunity to engage with the panelists and ask questions. The event will conclude with closing remarks from Dr. Ruffin.
Organizers say the gathering is designed to showcase current trends in workforce training and engagement, providing tools and insights that can help organizations strengthen and modernize their approach to employee development. As workforce needs in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and technology continue to evolve, the event aims to help local institutions and employers adapt to meet those challenges.
SUNY Corning Community College has played an active role in professional and workforce development programs across the region. Through collaborations with business leaders, the college and its partners continue to develop training opportunities that align with the skills and careers most in demand.
