A sailor is safe after being rescued from Canandaigua Lake on Sunday following the capsizing of a small sailboat.
According to the Cheshire Fire Department, crews responded to a call reporting an overturned sailboat on the lake. When emergency responders arrived, Cheshire Marine 4 coordinated efforts with an Ontario County Sheriff’s deputy who had already made contact with the person who reported the incident.
Thanks to quick action from both first responders and a nearby bystander, the sailor was located and brought safely to shore. Officials said the individual was wearing a personal flotation device at the time and did not suffer any injuries.
No additional injuries or damage were reported, and the boat was later secured. Emergency crews reminded the public that wearing proper safety gear and checking weather and lake conditions before heading out can make all the difference in preventing tragedy.
