There is no excuse for a registered sex offender to answer the door during Halloween.
In a post on Facebook today, the Allegany County Probation Department reminded anyone registered of the rules.
The county said they “wish to remind registered sex offenders under supervision that they are to remain within their residences tomorrow, October 31, 2023, after 4 p.m. and are not to have outdoor residential lights on or answer the door to hand out candy.”
New York State has an “Operation Halloween: Zero Tolerance” law which prohibits sex offenders from wearing masks or costumes, answering the door when someone is trick-or-treating, and they can’t offer candy on Halloween.
