Bath Mayor Michael Sweet Announces Re-Election Bid, GOP Caucus Set for Jan. 22

Staff Report / January 14, 2026

Bath NY — Bath Village Mayor Michael Sweet has announced plans to seek another term in office, citing stable taxes and significant investment as key reasons for continuing his leadership.

Sweet confirmed that a Republican caucus will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. at Bath Village Hall. During a phone interview with WVIN Radio News, the mayor said he is once again putting his name forward for the mayoral race.

In an interview with WVIN Radio, Sweet pointed to what he described as tangible progress made during his time in office, noting that village tax rates have remained steady. He also highlighted major public and private investments that he says are reshaping the community.

According to Sweet, more than $100 million has been invested in Bath in recent years. Those investments include utility infrastructure improvements, renovation work at the former Dana Lyons School, and funding tied to the New York Forward program. Bath was awarded $12.5 million through New York Forward, money that Sweet said is expected to begin flowing into village projects this year.

“I want to see that through,” Sweet said, referring to the New York Forward initiatives. He added that visible change has been a motivating factor in his decision to run again, reiterating his long-held position that he would continue serving as mayor as long as progress continued.

Sweet has served as mayor during a period of increased redevelopment and planning in the village, and his re-election bid sets the stage for the upcoming local election season in Bath.
