Bath Police Department / February 3, 2026
At approximately 10:58 p.m. on January 31, 2026, the Bath Police Department and Bath Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 23 Warden Street in the Village of Bath.
Upon arrival, officers observed heavy fire visible from the front of the residence. Members of the Bath Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police entered the residence and located an occupant inside. The agencies worked together to remove the individual and transfer him to the care of Bath Ambulance personnel.
The victim was transported by Bath Ambulance and Steuben County Advanced Life Support to Ira Davenport Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Derek J. Fisher, age 35, of Bath.
Two officers from the Bath Police Department and one deputy from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were treated at local hospitals for smoke inhalation.
The Bath Police Department and Bath Fire Department were assisted by the Bath VA, Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona, Painted Post, and Wayne Fire Departments.
